Professional Overview

I am a professional public art administrator and nationally recognized Creative Placemaking leader specializing in urban project design and implementation. My vast experience has fostered extensive connections in local and regional artist communities and my project involvement routinely attracts the interest of local and national media outlets. I am an exceptionally organized manager with excellent communication skills, financial nous, and a strong ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. I have a keen appreciation of the vital role of the arts in the community; more specifically, art’s ability to revitalize commercial districts to benefit whole communities. As a priority I maintain my own practice as an award winning freelance designer and fiber artist, often creating work in the public sphere. It is my goal to continue to make an impactful contribution to the Minneapolis’ cultural landscape and beyond.

Experience

2013-present Made Here, Hennepin Theatre Trust, Minneapolis, MN; Director of Public Art and Placemaking

In my role as the Director of Public Art and Placemaking for Hennepin Theatre Trust, I strive to increase and support artist involvement throughout the City Council supported downtown Cultural District boundaries. The Cultural District is an initiative of the Hennepin Theatre Trust in partnership with the Walker Art Center, the City of Minneapolis, and ArtPlace with Made Here it’s cornerstone project to activate vacant commercial storefronts with visual displays of MN based creativity. In this capacity I have coordinated more than 200 storefront displays as well numerous large scale murals, live performances in underutilized atriums, artist markets, and pop up parks. I specialize in cross sector collaborations working closely with private property owners, corporate sponsors, philanthropic foundations, Public Works, and the Public Arts Commission for the City of Mpls. 45 visual displays are featured in the current run of Made Here. www.madeheremn.org

2012- present Artists in Storefronts, Whittier Alliance, Minneapolis, MN; Arts Coordinator I was the sole architect and organizer of a large scale public art project that paired vacant and underused commercial storefronts with visual displays of local artists work to create an urban walking gallery up and down the heart of the “Eat Street” commercial district of the Whittier neighborhood. In just eighteen months of programming, Artists in Storefronts hosted 160 artists’ work, aged 5-80, as well as nearly 50 live performances in alternative spaces. I also managed the coordination and implementation of ambitious street art projects, permanent mural commissions, and dozens of community engaging walking and biking tours within each run. AiS boasted statistics that show eight commercial properties, with a combined vacancy of more than twenty years acquired lease agreements within eight months of participation.

2008-present Freelance, Minneapolis, MN; Artist and Designer I am a multiple award winning multidisciplinary artist, specializing in designs that utilize eco-conscious and re-purposed materials to animate storefronts for independent retailers. I have also utilized fiber art techniques to create large scale exhibits in the public sphere including dressing a pedestrian bridge with quilt panels, as well as interactive projects where results are later transposed using embroidery and upcycling techniques to create fabric panels for public display. I most recently exhibited a new body of work featuring embroidered handwriting showcasing a touching nurse-patient relationship.

1997-2014 Various Healthcare Organizations, MN, AZ, OR, and NY Licensed Practical Nurse Nearly seventeen years working with various patient populations as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Responsibilities included direct patient care, assessments, medication administration, electronic medical records documentation, and physician assistance.
